How they compare

China currently reports 24.2 kg/ha against 20.63 kg/ha in India, a difference of 3.57 kg/ha.

That makes China's figure about 1.2 times India's.

The two have swapped places 1 time across 63 shared years of data; in 1961 it was India ahead.

China ranks 5th and India ranks 7th of 201 countries.

Across the 7 decades both report, China averaged higher in 4 and India in 3.

Head to head by decade

Decade China India Difference Ahead
1960s 5.03 kg/ha 8.03 kg/ha 3 kg/ha India

The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
