How they compare

Ethiopia currently reports 218,271 t against 179,520 t in Germany, a difference of 38,751 t.

That makes Ethiopia's figure about 1.2 times Germany's.

The two have swapped places 1 time across 31 shared years of data; in 1993 it was Germany ahead.

Ethiopia ranks 13th and Germany ranks 16th of 201 countries.

Across the 4 decades both report, Ethiopia averaged higher in 2 and Germany in 2.

Head to head by decade

Decade Ethiopia Germany Difference Ahead
1990s 116,001 t 173,255 t 57,254 t Germany
2000s 139,394 t 182,714 t 43,320 t Germany
2010s 196,788 t 180,106 t 16,682 t Ethiopia
2020s 218,756 t 179,512 t 39,244 t Ethiopia

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
