Europe vs USSR: Atmospheric deposition — Cropland nitrogen
Atmospheric deposition — Cropland nitrogen over time
- Europe
- USSR
How they compare
USSR currently reports 2.13 million t against 1.98 million t in Europe, a difference of 150,010 t.
That makes USSR's figure about 1.1 times Europe's.
Across all 31 years both countries report, Europe has been ahead every year.
Europe ranks 4th and USSR ranks 4th of 38 regions.
Europe has averaged higher in every one of the 4 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Europe | USSR | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 2.61 million t | 1.48 million t | 1.13 million t | Europe |
| 1970s | 3.13 million t | 1.84 million t | 1.29 million t | Europe |
| 1980s | 3.46 million t | 2.11 million t | 1.35 million t | Europe |
| 1990s | 3.42 million t | 2.16 million t | 1.26 million t | Europe |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
