European Union (27) vs USSR: Atmospheric deposition — Cropland nitrogen
Atmospheric deposition — Cropland nitrogen over time
- European Union (27)
- USSR
How they compare
USSR currently reports 2.13 million t against 1.01 million t in European Union (27), a difference of 1.12 million t.
That makes USSR's figure about 2.1 times European Union (27)'s.
Across all 31 years both countries report, USSR has been ahead every year.
European Union (27) ranks 12th and USSR ranks 4th of 29 groups.
USSR has averaged higher in every one of the 4 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | European Union (27) | USSR | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 1.22 million t | 1.48 million t | 257,189 t | USSR |
| 1970s | 1.42 million t | 1.84 million t | 424,896 t | USSR |

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
