Botswana vs Germany: Biological fixation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Biological fixation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- Botswana
- Germany
How they compare
Botswana currently reports 3.58 kg/ha against 3.26 kg/ha in Germany, a difference of 0.32 kg/ha.
That makes Botswana's figure about 1.1 times Germany's.
The two have swapped places 8 times across 63 shared years of data; in 1961 it was Botswana ahead.
Botswana ranks 114th and Germany ranks 117th of 176 countries.
Across the 7 decades both report, Botswana averaged higher in 5 and Germany in 2.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Botswana | Germany | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 3.25 kg/ha | 1.39 kg/ha | 1.85 kg/ha | Botswana |
| 1970s | 4.47 kg/ha | 0.8528 kg/ha | 3.62 kg/ha | Botswana |
| 1980s | 3.83 kg/ha | 1.41 kg/ha | 2.42 kg/ha | Botswana |
| 1990s | 1.08 kg/ha | 2.02 kg/ha | 0.9422 kg/ha | Germany |
| 2000s | 1.38 kg/ha | 2.24 kg/ha | 0.8607 kg/ha | Germany |
| 2010s | 2.38 kg/ha | 2.04 kg/ha | 0.3428 kg/ha | Botswana |
| 2020s | 7.06 kg/ha | 3.51 kg/ha | 3.55 kg/ha | Botswana |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
