How they compare

Canada currently reports 19.57 kg/ha against 5.36 kg/ha in Europe, a difference of 14.21 kg/ha.

That makes Canada's figure about 3.7 times Europe's.

The two have swapped places 1 time across 63 shared years of data; in 1961 it was Europe ahead.

Canada ranks 27th and Europe ranks 26th of 191 countries.

Across the 7 decades both report, Canada averaged higher in 4 and Europe in 3.

Head to head by decade

Decade Canada Europe Difference Ahead
1960s 0.5343 kg/ha 2.55 kg/ha 2.01 kg/ha Europe
1970s 0.9444 kg/ha 2.32 kg/ha 1.37 kg/ha Europe
1980s 2.22 kg/ha 2.95 kg/ha 0.7292 kg/ha Europe

The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
