Gambia vs South Africa: Biological fixation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Biological fixation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- Gambia
- South Africa
How they compare
South Africa currently reports 16.97 kg/ha against 14.67 kg/ha in Gambia, a difference of 2.3 kg/ha.
That makes South Africa's figure about 1.2 times Gambia's.
The two have swapped places 3 times across 63 shared years of data; in 1961 it was Gambia ahead.
Gambia ranks 34th and South Africa ranks 31st of 176 countries.
Gambia has averaged higher in every one of the 7 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Gambia | South Africa | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 82.2 kg/ha | 3.26 kg/ha | 78.94 kg/ha | Gambia |
| 1970s | 69.12 kg/ha | 3.15 kg/ha | 65.97 kg/ha | Gambia |
| 1980s | 51.28 kg/ha | 2.83 kg/ha | 48.45 kg/ha | Gambia |
| 1990s | 38.59 kg/ha | 2.45 kg/ha | 36.14 kg/ha | Gambia |

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
