Luxembourg vs Portugal: Biological fixation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Biological fixation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- Luxembourg
- Portugal
How they compare
Luxembourg currently reports 1.07 kg/ha against 0.9083 kg/ha in Portugal, a difference of 0.1617 kg/ha.
That makes Luxembourg's figure about 1.2 times Portugal's.
The two have swapped places 6 times across 24 shared years of data; in 2000 it was Luxembourg ahead.
Luxembourg ranks 148th and Portugal ranks 151st of 176 countries.
Luxembourg has averaged higher in every one of the 3 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Luxembourg | Portugal | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2000s | 1.45 kg/ha | 0.9163 kg/ha | 0.5319 kg/ha | Luxembourg |
| 2010s | 1.08 kg/ha | 0.7368 kg/ha | 0.3406 kg/ha | Luxembourg |
| 2020s | 1.14 kg/ha | 0.9207 kg/ha | 0.215 kg/ha | Luxembourg |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
