How they compare

Brazil currently reports 13.2 Mt CO2e against 5.14 Mt CO2e in Pakistan, a difference of 8.06 Mt CO2e.

That makes Brazil's figure about 2.6 times Pakistan's.

The two have swapped places 4 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Brazil ahead.

Brazil ranks 3rd and Pakistan ranks 6th of 109 countries.

Brazil has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade Brazil Pakistan Difference Ahead
1970s 1.45 Mt CO2e 0.761 Mt CO2e 0.6934 Mt CO2e Brazil
1980s 2.03 Mt CO2e 1.57 Mt CO2e 0.4685 Mt CO2e Brazil
1990s 3.01 Mt CO2e 2.76 Mt CO2e 0.2487 Mt CO2e Brazil
2000s 5.69 Mt CO2e 4.12 Mt CO2e 1.57 Mt CO2e Brazil
2010s 8.54 Mt CO2e 4.86 Mt CO2e 3.68 Mt CO2e Brazil
2020s 12.68 Mt CO2e 5.29 Mt CO2e 7.39 Mt CO2e Brazil

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

A measure of annual emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
