How they compare

Mexico currently reports 2.44 Mt CO2e against 2.17 Mt CO2e in Viet Nam, a difference of 0.27 Mt CO2e.

That makes Mexico's figure about 1.1 times Viet Nam's.

The two have swapped places 6 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Mexico ahead.

Mexico ranks 12th and Viet Nam ranks 13th of 109 countries.

Mexico has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade Mexico Viet Nam Difference Ahead
1970s 1.6 Mt CO2e 0.3155 Mt CO2e 1.29 Mt CO2e Mexico
1980s 2.98 Mt CO2e 0.6463 Mt CO2e 2.34 Mt CO2e Mexico
1990s 2.95 Mt CO2e 1.35 Mt CO2e 1.59 Mt CO2e Mexico
2000s 2.94 Mt CO2e 2.15 Mt CO2e 0.792 Mt CO2e Mexico
2010s 2.99 Mt CO2e 2.78 Mt CO2e 0.2085 Mt CO2e Mexico
2020s 2.59 Mt CO2e 2.37 Mt CO2e 0.2228 Mt CO2e Mexico

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

A measure of annual emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
