How they compare

World currently reports 6,457 Mt CO2e against 2,793 Mt CO2e in China, a difference of 3,664 Mt CO2e.

That makes World's figure about 2.3 times China's.

Across all 55 years both countries report, World has been ahead every year.

China ranks 1st and World ranks 1st of 193 countries.

World has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade China World Difference Ahead
1970s 490.2 Mt CO2e 3,879 Mt CO2e 3,389 Mt CO2e World
1980s 676.02 Mt CO2e 3,935 Mt CO2e 3,259 Mt CO2e World

A measure of annual emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from industrial combustion (subsector of the energy sector) including IPCC 2006 code 1.A.2 Manufacturing Industries and Construction. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
