How they compare

Belgium currently reports 43.21 kg/ha against 11.3 kg/ha in Southern Europe, a difference of 31.91 kg/ha.

That makes Belgium's figure about 3.8 times Southern Europe's.

Across all 24 years both countries report, Belgium has been ahead every year.

Belgium ranks 9th and Southern Europe ranks 10th of 185 countries.

Belgium has averaged higher in every one of the 3 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade Belgium Southern Europe Difference Ahead
2000s 50 kg/ha 12.65 kg/ha 37.35 kg/ha Belgium
2010s 53.78 kg/ha 12.68 kg/ha 41.1 kg/ha Belgium
2020s 47.3 kg/ha 12.07 kg/ha 35.23 kg/ha Belgium

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
