How they compare

Honduras currently reports 5.22 Mt CO2e against 4.92 Mt CO2e in Portugal, a difference of 0.3 Mt CO2e.

That makes Honduras's figure about 1.1 times Portugal's.

The two have swapped places 3 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Portugal ahead.

Honduras ranks 88th and Portugal ranks 91st of 201 countries.

Across the 6 decades both report, Honduras averaged higher in 2 and Portugal in 4.

Head to head by decade

Decade Honduras Portugal Difference Ahead
1970s 2.76 Mt CO2e 4.52 Mt CO2e 1.76 Mt CO2e Portugal
1980s 3.63 Mt CO2e 5.18 Mt CO2e 1.55 Mt CO2e Portugal
1990s 3.46 Mt CO2e 5.2 Mt CO2e 1.74 Mt CO2e Portugal

A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
