Ireland vs Madagascar: Methane (CH4) emissions from Agriculture
Methane (CH4) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Ireland
- Madagascar
How they compare
Madagascar currently reports 17.89 Mt CO2e against 15.58 Mt CO2e in Ireland, a difference of 2.31 Mt CO2e.
That makes Madagascar's figure about 1.1 times Ireland's.
The two have swapped places 6 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Madagascar ahead.
Ireland ranks 49th and Madagascar ranks 47th of 201 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Ireland averaged higher in 1 and Madagascar in 5.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Ireland | Madagascar | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 12.38 Mt CO2e | 13.19 Mt CO2e | 0.8131 Mt CO2e | Madagascar |
| 1980s | 13.19 Mt CO2e | 14.94 Mt CO2e | 1.75 Mt CO2e | Madagascar |
| 1990s | 14.99 Mt CO2e | 15.34 Mt CO2e | 0.3488 Mt CO2e | Madagascar |
| 2000s | 16.06 Mt CO2e | 14.97 Mt CO2e | 1.09 Mt CO2e | Ireland |
| 2010s | 15.99 Mt CO2e | 16.3 Mt CO2e | 0.3077 Mt CO2e | Madagascar |
| 2020s | 15.68 Mt CO2e | 17.2 Mt CO2e | 1.53 Mt CO2e | Madagascar |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
