How they compare

Mexico currently reports 87.24 Mt CO2e against 74.18 Mt CO2e in Vietnam, a difference of 13.06 Mt CO2e.

That makes Mexico's figure about 1.2 times Vietnam's.

The two have swapped places 2 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Mexico ahead.

Mexico ranks 8th and Vietnam ranks 11th of 201 countries.

Mexico has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade Mexico Vietnam Difference Ahead
1970s 49.86 Mt CO2e 34.65 Mt CO2e 15.22 Mt CO2e Mexico
1980s 64.65 Mt CO2e 43.26 Mt CO2e 21.39 Mt CO2e Mexico
1990s 67.73 Mt CO2e 57.59 Mt CO2e 10.14 Mt CO2e Mexico

A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
