Benin vs Niger: Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste
Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste over time
- Benin
- Niger
How they compare
Benin currently reports 1.41 Mt CO2e against 1.25 Mt CO2e in Niger, a difference of 0.16 Mt CO2e.
That makes Benin's figure about 1.1 times Niger's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Niger ahead.
Benin ranks 109th and Niger ranks 112th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Benin averaged higher in 5 and Niger in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Benin | Niger | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.3424 Mt CO2e | 0.4514 Mt CO2e | 0.109 Mt CO2e | Niger |
| 1980s | 0.4325 Mt CO2e | 0.4081 Mt CO2e | 0.0244 Mt CO2e | Benin |

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
