Ethiopia vs Sub-Saharan Africa: Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste
Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste over time
- Ethiopia
- Sub-Saharan Africa
How they compare
Sub-Saharan Africa currently reports 156.4 Mt CO2e against 13.56 Mt CO2e in Ethiopia, a difference of 142.84 Mt CO2e.
That makes Sub-Saharan Africa's figure about 11.5 times Ethiopia's.
Across all 55 years both countries report, Sub-Saharan Africa has been ahead every year.
Ethiopia ranks 29th and Sub-Saharan Africa ranks 27th of 204 countries.
Sub-Saharan Africa has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Ethiopia | Sub-Saharan Africa | Difference | Ahead |

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
