How they compare

Morocco currently reports 22 Mt CO2e against 18.44 Mt CO2e in France, a difference of 3.56 Mt CO2e.

That makes Morocco's figure about 1.2 times France's.

The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was France ahead.

France ranks 20th and Morocco ranks 17th of 203 countries.

Across the 6 decades both report, France averaged higher in 5 and Morocco in 1.

Head to head by decade

Decade France Morocco Difference Ahead
1970s 16.7 Mt CO2e 3.99 Mt CO2e 12.71 Mt CO2e France
1980s 16.72 Mt CO2e 6.27 Mt CO2e 10.45 Mt CO2e France
1990s 19.21 Mt CO2e 8.97 Mt CO2e 10.25 Mt CO2e France

A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
