Niger vs Rwanda: Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste
Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste over time
- Niger
- Rwanda
How they compare
Niger currently reports 1.25 Mt CO2e against 1.12 Mt CO2e in Rwanda, a difference of 0.13 Mt CO2e.
That makes Niger's figure about 1.1 times Rwanda's.
The two have swapped places 2 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Niger ahead.
Niger ranks 112th and Rwanda ranks 115th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Niger averaged higher in 5 and Rwanda in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Niger | Rwanda | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.4514 Mt CO2e | 0.4242 Mt CO2e | 0.0272 Mt CO2e | Niger |
| 1980s | 0.4081 Mt CO2e | 0.4251 Mt CO2e | 0.017 Mt CO2e | Rwanda |
| 1990s | 0.4247 Mt CO2e | 0.375 Mt CO2e | 0.0497 Mt CO2e | Niger |
| 2000s | 0.5931 Mt CO2e | 0.5615 Mt CO2e | 0.0315 Mt CO2e | Niger |
| 2010s | 0.8582 Mt CO2e | 0.8009 Mt CO2e | 0.0573 Mt CO2e | Niger |
| 2020s | 1.16 Mt CO2e | 1.05 Mt CO2e | 0.1079 Mt CO2e | Niger |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
