Saudi Arabia vs Thailand: Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste
Methane (CH4) emissions from Waste over time
- Saudi Arabia
- Thailand
How they compare
Saudi Arabia currently reports 33.24 Mt CO2e against 26.65 Mt CO2e in Thailand, a difference of 6.59 Mt CO2e.
That makes Saudi Arabia's figure about 1.2 times Thailand's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Thailand ahead.
Saudi Arabia ranks 9th and Thailand ranks 11th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Saudi Arabia averaged higher in 3 and Thailand in 3.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Saudi Arabia | Thailand | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 2.54 Mt CO2e | 6.11 Mt CO2e | 3.57 Mt CO2e | Thailand |
| 1980s | 6.1 Mt CO2e | 8.24 Mt CO2e | 2.15 Mt CO2e | Thailand |
| 1990s | 10.33 Mt CO2e | 11.1 Mt CO2e | 0.7705 Mt CO2e | Thailand |

| 2010s | 25.4 Mt CO2e | 21.6 Mt CO2e | 3.8 Mt CO2e | Saudi Arabia |
| 2020s | 31.69 Mt CO2e | 25.71 Mt CO2e | 5.99 Mt CO2e | Saudi Arabia |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
