How they compare

Australia currently reports 4.0% against 1.2% in Greenland, a difference of 2.8%.

That makes Australia's figure about 3.3 times Greenland's.

The two have swapped places 8 times across 34 shared years of data; in 1991 it was Australia ahead.

Australia ranks 143rd and Greenland ranks 146th of 203 countries.

Across the 4 decades both report, Australia averaged higher in 3 and Greenland in 1.

Head to head by decade

Decade Australia Greenland Difference Ahead
1990s -0.7% -1.3% 0.6% Australia
2000s 1.6% -1.1% 2.7% Australia
2010s 1.7% 1.0% 0.7% Australia
2020s -0.8% 1.2% 2.0% Greenland

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

Change of emissions (as %) of current year with respect to emissions in baseline year 1990 emissions of methane (CH4), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agriculture, energy, waste, and industrial sectors, excluding LULUCF.. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5). Negative values indicate that the emission level for that year is lower than the emissions level in 1990.
