Afghanistan vs Nepal: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Afghanistan
- Nepal
How they compare
Nepal currently reports 3.33 Mt CO2e against 3.14 Mt CO2e in Afghanistan, a difference of 0.19 Mt CO2e.
That makes Nepal's figure about 1.1 times Afghanistan's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Afghanistan ahead.
Afghanistan ranks 75th and Nepal ranks 72nd of 201 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Afghanistan averaged higher in 1 and Nepal in 5.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Afghanistan | Nepal | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 2.33 Mt CO2e | 1.8 Mt CO2e | 0.524 Mt CO2e | Afghanistan |
| 1980s | 2.09 Mt CO2e | 2.29 Mt CO2e | 0.1989 Mt CO2e | Nepal |
| 1990s | 2.01 Mt CO2e | 2.76 Mt CO2e | 0.7433 Mt CO2e | Nepal |
| 2000s | 2.44 Mt CO2e | 2.96 Mt CO2e | 0.52 Mt CO2e | Nepal |
| 2010s | 3.39 Mt CO2e | 3.91 Mt CO2e | 0.515 Mt CO2e | Nepal |
| 2020s | 3.12 Mt CO2e | 3.95 Mt CO2e | 0.8302 Mt CO2e | Nepal |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
