Argentina vs Ethiopia: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Argentina
- Ethiopia
How they compare
Ethiopia currently reports 35.52 Mt CO2e against 33.39 Mt CO2e in Argentina, a difference of 2.13 Mt CO2e.
That makes Ethiopia's figure about 1.1 times Argentina's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Argentina ahead.
Argentina ranks 10th and Ethiopia ranks 9th of 201 countries.
Argentina has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Argentina | Ethiopia | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 24.2 Mt CO2e | 11.89 Mt CO2e | 12.31 Mt CO2e | Argentina |
| 1980s | 23.92 Mt CO2e | 12.14 Mt CO2e | 11.78 Mt CO2e | Argentina |
| 1990s | 24.64 Mt CO2e | 13.31 Mt CO2e | 11.32 Mt CO2e | Argentina |
| 2000s | 28.54 Mt CO2e | 17.75 Mt CO2e | 10.8 Mt CO2e | Argentina |
| 2010s | 30.21 Mt CO2e | 26.72 Mt CO2e | 3.5 Mt CO2e | Argentina |
| 2020s | 33.9 Mt CO2e | 33.48 Mt CO2e | 0.4167 Mt CO2e | Argentina |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
