Australia vs High income: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Australia
- High income
How they compare
High income currently reports 460.32 Mt CO2e against 38.62 Mt CO2e in Australia, a difference of 421.7 Mt CO2e.
That makes High income's figure about 11.9 times Australia's.
Across all 55 years both countries report, High income has been ahead every year.
Australia ranks 8th and High income ranks 9th of 201 countries.
High income has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Australia | High income | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 29.4 Mt CO2e | 446.95 Mt CO2e | 417.55 Mt CO2e | High income |
| 1980s | 27.5 Mt CO2e | 487.29 Mt CO2e | 459.79 Mt CO2e | High income |
| 1990s | 32.01 Mt CO2e | 457.2 Mt CO2e | 425.19 Mt CO2e | High income |
| 2000s | 33.08 Mt CO2e | 440.25 Mt CO2e | 407.17 Mt CO2e | High income |

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
