Bangladesh vs Sub-Saharan Africa: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Bangladesh
- Sub-Saharan Africa
How they compare
Sub-Saharan Africa currently reports 242.64 Mt CO2e against 17.85 Mt CO2e in Bangladesh, a difference of 224.79 Mt CO2e.
That makes Sub-Saharan Africa's figure about 13.6 times Bangladesh's.
Across all 55 years both countries report, Sub-Saharan Africa has been ahead every year.
Bangladesh ranks 21st and Sub-Saharan Africa ranks 21st of 201 countries.
Sub-Saharan Africa has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Bangladesh | Sub-Saharan Africa | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 6.17 Mt CO2e | 84.3 Mt CO2e | 78.13 Mt CO2e | Sub-Saharan Africa |
| 1980s | 7.72 Mt CO2e | 98.47 Mt CO2e | 90.75 Mt CO2e | Sub-Saharan Africa |

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
