Botswana vs Libya: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Botswana
- Libya
How they compare
Libya currently reports 0.7481 Mt CO2e against 0.561 Mt CO2e in Botswana, a difference of 0.1871 Mt CO2e.
That makes Libya's figure about 1.3 times Botswana's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Botswana ahead.
Botswana ranks 125th and Libya ranks 123rd of 201 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Botswana averaged higher in 5 and Libya in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Botswana | Libya | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 1.22 Mt CO2e | 0.4085 Mt CO2e | 0.8066 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 1980s | 1.34 Mt CO2e | 0.6095 Mt CO2e | 0.7295 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 1990s | 1.27 Mt CO2e | 0.6231 Mt CO2e | 0.6422 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 2000s | 1.18 Mt CO2e | 0.6965 Mt CO2e | 0.4788 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 2010s | 0.9277 Mt CO2e | 0.8188 Mt CO2e | 0.109 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 2020s | 0.568 Mt CO2e | 0.7623 Mt CO2e | 0.1943 Mt CO2e | Libya |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
