Botswana vs Panama: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Botswana
- Panama
How they compare
Panama currently reports 0.7736 Mt CO2e against 0.561 Mt CO2e in Botswana, a difference of 0.2126 Mt CO2e.
That makes Panama's figure about 1.4 times Botswana's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Botswana ahead.
Botswana ranks 125th and Panama ranks 122nd of 201 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Botswana averaged higher in 5 and Panama in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Botswana | Panama | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 1.22 Mt CO2e | 0.562 Mt CO2e | 0.6531 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 1980s | 1.34 Mt CO2e | 0.6177 Mt CO2e | 0.7213 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 1990s | 1.27 Mt CO2e | 0.6588 Mt CO2e | 0.6065 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 2000s | 1.18 Mt CO2e | 0.7293 Mt CO2e | 0.446 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 2010s | 0.9277 Mt CO2e | 0.7828 Mt CO2e | 0.1449 Mt CO2e | Botswana |
| 2020s | 0.568 Mt CO2e | 0.7675 Mt CO2e | 0.1995 Mt CO2e | Panama |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
