China vs Middle income: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- China
- Middle income
How they compare
Middle income currently reports 1,125 Mt CO2e against 249.49 Mt CO2e in China, a difference of 875.51 Mt CO2e.
That makes Middle income's figure about 4.5 times China's.
Across all 55 years both countries report, Middle income has been ahead every year.
China ranks 1st and Middle income ranks 4th of 201 countries.
Middle income has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | China | Middle income | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 91.07 Mt CO2e | 467.34 Mt CO2e | 376.27 Mt CO2e | Middle income |
| 1980s | 151.31 Mt CO2e | 629.14 Mt CO2e | 477.83 Mt CO2e | Middle income |
| 1990s | 219.65 Mt CO2e | 779.05 Mt CO2e | 559.4 Mt CO2e | Middle income |
| 2000s | 256.75 Mt CO2e | 906.66 Mt CO2e | 649.91 Mt CO2e | Middle income |
| 2010s | 253.74 Mt CO2e | 1,035 Mt CO2e | 781.5 Mt CO2e | Middle income |
| 2020s | 240.1 Mt CO2e | 1,106 Mt CO2e | 866.1 Mt CO2e | Middle income |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
