How they compare

Mexico currently reports 29.24 Mt CO2e against 23.1 Mt CO2e in France, a difference of 6.14 Mt CO2e.

That makes Mexico's figure about 1.3 times France's.

The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was France ahead.

France ranks 14th and Mexico ranks 12th of 201 countries.

Across the 6 decades both report, France averaged higher in 5 and Mexico in 1.

Head to head by decade

Decade France Mexico Difference Ahead
1970s 27.81 Mt CO2e 16.9 Mt CO2e 10.91 Mt CO2e France
1980s 31.58 Mt CO2e 23.5 Mt CO2e 8.08 Mt CO2e France
1990s 30.62 Mt CO2e 24.22 Mt CO2e 6.4 Mt CO2e France
2000s 29.39 Mt CO2e 24.77 Mt CO2e 4.61 Mt CO2e France
2010s 28.32 Mt CO2e 27.57 Mt CO2e 0.7535 Mt CO2e France
2020s 24.38 Mt CO2e 29.66 Mt CO2e 5.28 Mt CO2e Mexico

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
