How they compare

Switzerland currently reports 1.47 Mt CO2e against 1.32 Mt CO2e in Sri Lanka, a difference of 0.15 Mt CO2e.

That makes Switzerland's figure about 1.1 times Sri Lanka's.

The two have swapped places 2 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Switzerland ahead.

Sri Lanka ranks 110th and Switzerland ranks 107th of 201 countries.

Switzerland has averaged higher in every one of the 6 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade Sri Lanka Switzerland Difference Ahead
1970s 0.8511 Mt CO2e 1.73 Mt CO2e 0.8787 Mt CO2e Switzerland
1980s 1.09 Mt CO2e 1.83 Mt CO2e 0.7387 Mt CO2e Switzerland
1990s 1.17 Mt CO2e 1.68 Mt CO2e 0.5149 Mt CO2e Switzerland

A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
