Iceland vs Saudi Arabia: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Building (Energy)
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Building (Energy) over time
- Iceland
- Saudi Arabia
How they compare
Saudi Arabia currently reports 0.004 Mt CO2e against 0.0032 Mt CO2e in Iceland, a difference of 0.0008 Mt CO2e.
That makes Saudi Arabia's figure about 1.2 times Iceland's.
The two have swapped places 5 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Iceland ahead.
Iceland ranks 157th and Saudi Arabia ranks 154th of 197 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Iceland averaged higher in 3 and Saudi Arabia in 3.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Iceland | Saudi Arabia | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.0338 Mt CO2e | 0.0012 Mt CO2e | 0.0326 Mt CO2e | Iceland |
| 1980s | 0.0428 Mt CO2e | 0.0119 Mt CO2e | 0.0309 Mt CO2e | Iceland |
| 1990s | 0.0034 Mt CO2e | 0.0027 Mt CO2e | 0.0007 Mt CO2e | Iceland |
| 2000s | 0.0031 Mt CO2e | 0.0032 Mt CO2e | 0.0001 Mt CO2e | Saudi Arabia |
| 2010s | 0.003 Mt CO2e | 0.0044 Mt CO2e | 0.0014 Mt CO2e | Saudi Arabia |
| 2020s | 0.0033 Mt CO2e | 0.004 Mt CO2e | 0.0007 Mt CO2e | Saudi Arabia |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the building sector (subsector of the energy sector) including IPCC 2006 codes 1.A.4 Residential and other sectors, 1.A.5 Non-Specified. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
