Bangladesh vs Nigeria: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste over time
- Bangladesh
- Nigeria
How they compare
Nigeria currently reports 2.2 Mt CO2e against 2.03 Mt CO2e in Bangladesh, a difference of 0.17 Mt CO2e.
That makes Nigeria's figure about 1.1 times Bangladesh's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Bangladesh ahead.
Bangladesh ranks 13th and Nigeria ranks 11th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Bangladesh averaged higher in 2 and Nigeria in 4.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Bangladesh | Nigeria | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.5388 Mt CO2e | 0.4498 Mt CO2e | 0.089 Mt CO2e | Bangladesh |
| 1980s | 0.6791 Mt CO2e | 0.6313 Mt CO2e | 0.0478 Mt CO2e | Bangladesh |
| 1990s | 0.8924 Mt CO2e | 1 Mt CO2e | 0.1121 Mt CO2e | Nigeria |
| 2000s | 1.23 Mt CO2e | 1.41 Mt CO2e | 0.1815 Mt CO2e | Nigeria |
| 2010s | 1.6 Mt CO2e | 1.88 Mt CO2e | 0.2744 Mt CO2e | Nigeria |
| 2020s | 1.94 Mt CO2e | 2.14 Mt CO2e | 0.2096 Mt CO2e | Nigeria |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
