Brazil vs Russia: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste over time
- Brazil
- Russia
How they compare
Brazil currently reports 3.82 Mt CO2e against 3.08 Mt CO2e in Russia, a difference of 0.74 Mt CO2e.
That makes Brazil's figure about 1.2 times Russia's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Russia ahead.
Brazil ranks 4th and Russia ranks 6th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Brazil averaged higher in 3 and Russia in 3.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Brazil | Russia | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 1.08 Mt CO2e | 2.12 Mt CO2e | 1.04 Mt CO2e | Russia |
| 1980s | 1.43 Mt CO2e | 2.28 Mt CO2e | 0.846 Mt CO2e | Russia |
| 1990s | 2.04 Mt CO2e | 2.23 Mt CO2e | 0.1823 Mt CO2e | Russia |
| 2000s | 2.65 Mt CO2e | 2.28 Mt CO2e | 0.3721 Mt CO2e | Brazil |
| 2010s | 3.53 Mt CO2e | 2.61 Mt CO2e | 0.9241 Mt CO2e | Brazil |
| 2020s | 3.75 Mt CO2e | 2.95 Mt CO2e | 0.7973 Mt CO2e | Brazil |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
