France vs United Kingdom: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste over time
- France
- United Kingdom
How they compare
United Kingdom currently reports 2.03 Mt CO2e against 1.85 Mt CO2e in France, a difference of 0.18 Mt CO2e.
That makes United Kingdom's figure about 1.1 times France's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was France ahead.
France ranks 15th and United Kingdom ranks 12th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, France averaged higher in 4 and United Kingdom in 2.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | France | United Kingdom | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 1.17 Mt CO2e | 0.9316 Mt CO2e | 0.2353 Mt CO2e | France |
| 1980s | 1.28 Mt CO2e | 0.9284 Mt CO2e | 0.3552 Mt CO2e | France |
| 1990s | 1.38 Mt CO2e | 1.06 Mt CO2e | 0.3206 Mt CO2e | France |
| 2000s | 1.49 Mt CO2e | 1.37 Mt CO2e | 0.1163 Mt CO2e | France |
| 2010s | 1.71 Mt CO2e | 1.92 Mt CO2e | 0.2042 Mt CO2e | United Kingdom |
| 2020s | 1.84 Mt CO2e | 2.06 Mt CO2e | 0.2283 Mt CO2e | United Kingdom |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
