Libya vs Somalia: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste over time
- Libya
- Somalia
How they compare
Somalia currently reports 0.1243 Mt CO2e against 0.1177 Mt CO2e in Libya, a difference of 0.0066 Mt CO2e.
That makes Somalia's figure about 1.1 times Libya's.
The two have swapped places 4 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Somalia ahead.
Libya ranks 102nd and Somalia ranks 101st of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Libya averaged higher in 3 and Somalia in 3.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Libya | Somalia | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.024 Mt CO2e | 0.0244 Mt CO2e | 0.0003 Mt CO2e | Somalia |
| 1980s | 0.041 Mt CO2e | 0.0347 Mt CO2e | 0.0063 Mt CO2e | Libya |
| 1990s | 0.0498 Mt CO2e | 0.0451 Mt CO2e | 0.0047 Mt CO2e | Libya |

| 2010s | 0.0965 Mt CO2e | 0.1032 Mt CO2e | 0.0068 Mt CO2e | Somalia |
| 2020s | 0.1122 Mt CO2e | 0.1192 Mt CO2e | 0.007 Mt CO2e | Somalia |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
