Malaysia vs Small states: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste over time
- Malaysia
- Small states
How they compare
Malaysia currently reports 0.5465 Mt CO2e against 0.3115 Mt CO2e in Small states, a difference of 0.235 Mt CO2e.
That makes Malaysia's figure about 1.8 times Small states's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Small states ahead.
Malaysia ranks 41st and Small states ranks 44th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Malaysia averaged higher in 5 and Small states in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Malaysia | Small states | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.1191 Mt CO2e | 0.1227 Mt CO2e | 0.0036 Mt CO2e | Small states |
| 1980s | 0.1639 Mt CO2e | 0.1487 Mt CO2e | 0.0152 Mt CO2e | Malaysia |
| 1990s | 0.2579 Mt CO2e | 0.1699 Mt CO2e | 0.088 Mt CO2e | Malaysia |

| 2010s | 0.4718 Mt CO2e | 0.2644 Mt CO2e | 0.2074 Mt CO2e | Malaysia |
| 2020s | 0.5309 Mt CO2e | 0.3061 Mt CO2e | 0.2248 Mt CO2e | Malaysia |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
