Mexico vs United Kingdom: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Waste over time
- Mexico
- United Kingdom
How they compare
Mexico currently reports 2.41 Mt CO2e against 2.03 Mt CO2e in United Kingdom, a difference of 0.38 Mt CO2e.
That makes Mexico's figure about 1.2 times United Kingdom's.
The two have swapped places 3 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was United Kingdom ahead.
Mexico ranks 9th and United Kingdom ranks 12th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Mexico averaged higher in 5 and United Kingdom in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Mexico | United Kingdom | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 0.705 Mt CO2e | 0.9316 Mt CO2e | 0.2267 Mt CO2e | United Kingdom |
| 1980s | 1.05 Mt CO2e | 0.9284 Mt CO2e | 0.1178 Mt CO2e | Mexico |
| 1990s | 1.27 Mt CO2e | 1.06 Mt CO2e | 0.2102 Mt CO2e | Mexico |
| 2000s | 1.59 Mt CO2e | 1.37 Mt CO2e | 0.2202 Mt CO2e | Mexico |
| 2010s | 2 Mt CO2e | 1.92 Mt CO2e | 0.0776 Mt CO2e | Mexico |
| 2020s | 2.32 Mt CO2e | 2.06 Mt CO2e | 0.2554 Mt CO2e | Mexico |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the waste sector. This includes emissions from solid waste (IPCC 2006 codes 4.A Solid Waste Disposal, 4.B Biological Treatment of Solid Waste, 4.C Incineration and Open Burning of Waste) and wastewater treatment (IPCC 2006 code 4.D Wastewater Treatment and Discharge). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
