How they compare

Ethiopia currently reports 174.9% against 70.5% in Middle income, a difference of 104.4%.

That makes Ethiopia's figure about 2.5 times Middle income's.

The two have swapped places 4 times across 34 shared years of data; in 1991 it was Ethiopia ahead.

Ethiopia ranks 24th and Middle income ranks 23rd of 203 countries.

Across the 4 decades both report, Ethiopia averaged higher in 3 and Middle income in 1.

Head to head by decade

Decade Ethiopia Middle income Difference Ahead
1990s 5.7% 9.6% 4.0% Middle income
2000s 41.5% 29.8% 11.7% Ethiopia
2010s 109.9% 51.9% 58.1% Ethiopia
2020s 160.5% 65.7% 94.8% Ethiopia

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

Change of emissions (as %) of current year with respect to emissions in baseline year 1990 emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agriculture, energy, waste, and industrial sectors, excluding LULUCF.. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5). Negative values indicate that the emission level for that year is lower than the emissions level in 1990.
