China vs Eastern Europe: Nutrient balance — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Nutrient balance — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- China
- Eastern Europe
How they compare
China currently reports 158.62 kg/ha against 15.8 kg/ha in Eastern Europe, a difference of 142.82 kg/ha.
That makes China's figure about 10.0 times Eastern Europe's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 63 shared years of data; in 1961 it was Eastern Europe ahead.
China ranks 23rd and Eastern Europe ranks 26th of 201 countries.
Across the 7 decades both report, China averaged higher in 6 and Eastern Europe in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | China | Eastern Europe | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 23.62 kg/ha | 29.38 kg/ha | 5.75 kg/ha | Eastern Europe |
| 1970s | 56.21 kg/ha | 51.86 kg/ha | 4.35 kg/ha | China |
| 1980s | 113.92 kg/ha | 70.92 kg/ha | 42.99 kg/ha | China |

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
