South America vs USSR: Outputs — Cropland nitrogen
Outputs — Cropland nitrogen over time
- South America
- USSR
How they compare
South America currently reports 19.09 million t against 4.37 million t in USSR, a difference of 14.73 million t.
That makes South America's figure about 4.4 times USSR's.
The two have swapped places 3 times across 31 shared years of data; in 1961 it was USSR ahead.
South America ranks 4th and USSR ranks 5th of 32 groups.
USSR has averaged higher in every one of the 4 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | South America | USSR | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 1.77 million t | 3.77 million t | 2.00 million t | USSR |
| 1970s | 2.70 million t | 4.86 million t | 2.16 million t | USSR |

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
