Myanmar vs Sudan: Total greenhouse gas emissions excluding LULUCF
Total greenhouse gas emissions excluding LULUCF over time
- Myanmar
- Sudan
How they compare
Sudan currently reports 138.7 Mt CO2e against 117.79 Mt CO2e in Myanmar, a difference of 20.91 Mt CO2e.
That makes Sudan's figure about 1.2 times Myanmar's.
The two have swapped places 3 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Myanmar ahead.
Myanmar ranks 47th and Sudan ranks 44th of 204 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Myanmar averaged higher in 2 and Sudan in 4.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Myanmar | Sudan | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 53.1 Mt CO2e | 44.11 Mt CO2e | 8.99 Mt CO2e | Myanmar |
| 1980s | 64.71 Mt CO2e | 57.96 Mt CO2e | 6.74 Mt CO2e | Myanmar |
| 1990s | 71.73 Mt CO2e | 75.78 Mt CO2e | 4.04 Mt CO2e | Sudan |
| 2000s | 99.13 Mt CO2e | 111.81 Mt CO2e | 12.69 Mt CO2e | Sudan |
| 2010s | 121.06 Mt CO2e | 129.57 Mt CO2e | 8.51 Mt CO2e | Sudan |
| 2020s | 120.28 Mt CO2e | 138.79 Mt CO2e | 18.51 Mt CO2e | Sudan |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of the six greenhouse gases (GHG) covered by the Kyoto Protocol (carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulphurhexafluoride (SF6)) from the energy, industry, waste, and agriculture sectors, standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values. This measure excludes GHG fluxes caused by Land Use Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), as these fluxes have larger uncertainties. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
