Qatar vs Small states: Total greenhouse gas emissions excluding LULUCF
Total greenhouse gas emissions excluding LULUCF over time
- Qatar
- Small states
How they compare
Qatar currently reports 162.75 Mt CO2e against 121.58 Mt CO2e in Small states, a difference of 41.17 Mt CO2e.
That makes Qatar's figure about 1.3 times Small states's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Small states ahead.
Qatar ranks 41st and Small states ranks 42nd of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Qatar averaged higher in 1 and Small states in 5.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Qatar | Small states | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 29.23 Mt CO2e | 76.61 Mt CO2e | 47.38 Mt CO2e | Small states |
| 1980s | 22.85 Mt CO2e | 94.99 Mt CO2e | 72.15 Mt CO2e | Small states |
| 1990s | 36.85 Mt CO2e | 94.17 Mt CO2e | 57.32 Mt CO2e | Small states |
| 2000s | 69.73 Mt CO2e | 117.93 Mt CO2e | 48.19 Mt CO2e | Small states |
| 2010s | 128.2 Mt CO2e | 134.1 Mt CO2e | 5.9 Mt CO2e | Small states |
| 2020s | 149.94 Mt CO2e | 122.05 Mt CO2e | 27.89 Mt CO2e | Qatar |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of the six greenhouse gases (GHG) covered by the Kyoto Protocol (carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulphurhexafluoride (SF6)) from the energy, industry, waste, and agriculture sectors, standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values. This measure excludes GHG fluxes caused by Land Use Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), as these fluxes have larger uncertainties. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
