How they compare

South Africa currently reports 10.25 kg/ha against 9.72 kg/ha in Azerbaijan, a difference of 0.53 kg/ha.

That makes South Africa's figure about 1.1 times Azerbaijan's.

The two have swapped places 5 times across 32 shared years of data; in 1992 it was Azerbaijan ahead.

Azerbaijan ranks 128th and South Africa ranks 125th of 186 countries.

South Africa has averaged higher in every one of the 4 decades both report.

Head to head by decade

Decade Azerbaijan South Africa Difference Ahead
1990s 5.66 kg/ha 8.69 kg/ha 3.03 kg/ha South Africa
2000s 4.18 kg/ha 9.44 kg/ha 5.26 kg/ha South Africa
2010s 9.38 kg/ha 10.38 kg/ha 1.01 kg/ha South Africa
2020s 8.1 kg/ha 12.91 kg/ha 4.81 kg/ha South Africa

Averages of every year both report within each decade.

The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
