Costa Rica vs Europe: Volatilisation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Volatilisation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- Costa Rica
- Europe
How they compare
Costa Rica currently reports 71.59 kg/ha against 18.9 kg/ha in Europe, a difference of 52.69 kg/ha.
That makes Costa Rica's figure about 3.8 times Europe's.
The two have swapped places 5 times across 63 shared years of data; in 1961 it was Europe ahead.
Costa Rica ranks 14th and Europe ranks 17th of 185 countries.
Costa Rica has averaged higher in every one of the 7 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Costa Rica | Europe | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1960s | 17.23 kg/ha | 14.7 kg/ha | 2.52 kg/ha | Costa Rica |
| 1970s | 28.63 kg/ha | 23.61 kg/ha | 5.02 kg/ha | Costa Rica |
| 1980s | 39.15 kg/ha | 29.89 kg/ha | 9.26 kg/ha | Costa Rica |
| 1990s | 58.33 kg/ha | 21.46 kg/ha | 36.87 kg/ha | Costa Rica |

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
