Ethiopia vs South Africa: Volatilisation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Volatilisation — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- Ethiopia
- South Africa
How they compare
Ethiopia currently reports 10.94 kg/ha against 10.25 kg/ha in South Africa, a difference of 0.69 kg/ha.
That makes Ethiopia's figure about 1.1 times South Africa's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 31 shared years of data; in 1993 it was South Africa ahead.
Ethiopia ranks 122nd and South Africa ranks 125th of 186 countries.
South Africa has averaged higher in every one of the 4 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Ethiopia | South Africa | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1990s | 3.09 kg/ha | 8.75 kg/ha | 5.66 kg/ha | South Africa |
| 2000s | 3.52 kg/ha | 9.44 kg/ha | 5.92 kg/ha | South Africa |
| 2010s | 6.41 kg/ha | 10.38 kg/ha | 3.98 kg/ha | South Africa |
| 2020s | 9.64 kg/ha | 12.91 kg/ha | 3.27 kg/ha | South Africa |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
