Analysis
India recorded 112 Mt CO2e for carbon dioxide (co2) emissions from fugitive emissions (energy) in 2024. That is the highest value across all 55 years on record.
Compared with earlier readings it is up 3.3% on the previous year and up 42.5% over ten years.
Over the whole period, carbon dioxide (co2) emissions from fugitive emissions (energy) in India peaked at 112 Mt CO2e in 2024 and was at its lowest, 18.91 Mt CO2e, in 1970.
India ranks 5th of 190 countries on this measure, in the top 10%.
The series is highly variable year to year, so single readings are best treated with caution.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from fugitive emissions (subsector of the energy sector) including IPCC 2006 codes 1.A.1.bc Petroleum Refining - Manufacture of Solid Fuels and Other Energy Industries, 1.B.1 Solid Fuels, 1.B.2 Oil and Natural Gas, 5.B. The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
