Cuba vs Portugal: Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture
Nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from Agriculture over time
- Cuba
- Portugal
How they compare
Portugal currently reports 1.81 Mt CO2e against 1.71 Mt CO2e in Cuba, a difference of 0.1 Mt CO2e.
That makes Portugal's figure about 1.1 times Cuba's.
The two have swapped places 3 times across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Cuba ahead.
Cuba ranks 102nd and Portugal ranks 100th of 201 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Cuba averaged higher in 5 and Portugal in 1.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Cuba | Portugal | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 3.29 Mt CO2e | 2.05 Mt CO2e | 1.24 Mt CO2e | Cuba |
| 1980s | 3.92 Mt CO2e | 2.41 Mt CO2e | 1.51 Mt CO2e | Cuba |
| 1990s | 2.93 Mt CO2e | 2.41 Mt CO2e | 0.5281 Mt CO2e | Cuba |
| 2000s | 2.18 Mt CO2e | 2.12 Mt CO2e | 0.0581 Mt CO2e | Cuba |
| 2010s | 2.29 Mt CO2e | 2.07 Mt CO2e | 0.2262 Mt CO2e | Cuba |
| 2020s | 1.79 Mt CO2e | 1.97 Mt CO2e | 0.1814 Mt CO2e | Portugal |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
A measure of annual emissions of nitrous oxide (N2O), one of the six Kyoto greenhouse gases (GHG), from the agricultural sector. This includes emissions from livestock (IPCC 2006 codes 3.A.1 (enteric fermentation, 3.a.2 (manure management) and crops (IPCC 2006 codes 3.C.1 Emissions from biomass burning, 3.C.2 Liming, 3.C.3 Urea application, 3.C.4 Direct N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.5 Indirect N2O Emissions from managed soils, 3.C.6 Indirect N2O Emissions from manure management, 3.C.7 Rice cultivations). The measure is standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values using the Global Warming Potential (GWP) factors of IPCC's 5th Assessment Report (AR5).
