South America vs Turkmenistan: Nutrient balance — Cropland nitrogen per unit area
Nutrient balance — Cropland nitrogen per unit area over time
- South America
- Turkmenistan
How they compare
Turkmenistan currently reports 316.59 kg/ha against 62.08 kg/ha in South America, a difference of 254.51 kg/ha.
That makes Turkmenistan's figure about 5.1 times South America's.
The two have swapped places 4 times across 32 shared years of data; in 1992 it was Turkmenistan ahead.
South America ranks 4th and Turkmenistan ranks 7th of 29 groups.
Turkmenistan has averaged higher in every one of the 4 decades both report.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | South America | Turkmenistan | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1990s | 30.34 kg/ha | 48.74 kg/ha | 18.4 kg/ha | Turkmenistan |
| 2000s | 41.31 kg/ha | 77.01 kg/ha | 35.7 kg/ha | Turkmenistan |
| 2010s | 47.76 kg/ha | 203.24 kg/ha | 155.48 kg/ha | Turkmenistan |
| 2020s | 61.97 kg/ha | 270.56 kg/ha | 208.59 kg/ha | Turkmenistan |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
The Cropland Nutrient balance domain contains information on the flows of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium from mineral fertilizer, manure applied, atmospheric deposition, crop removal, and biological fixation over cropland and per unit area of cropland. The flows are aggregated to total inputs and total outputs, from which the overall nutrient balance and nutrient use efficiency on cropland are calculated. Statistics are disseminated in units of tonnes and in kg/ha, as appropriate. Nutrient use efficiency is expressed as a fraction (%).
