Greenland vs Other small states: Total greenhouse gas emissions excluding LULUCF per capita
Total greenhouse gas emissions excluding LULUCF per capita over time
- Greenland
- Other small states
How they compare
Greenland currently reports 11.6 t CO2e/capita against 5.18 t CO2e/capita in Other small states, a difference of 6.42 t CO2e/capita.
That makes Greenland's figure about 2.2 times Other small states's.
The two have swapped places 1 time across 55 shared years of data; in 1970 it was Other small states ahead.
Greenland ranks 25th and Other small states ranks 27th of 203 countries.
Across the 6 decades both report, Greenland averaged higher in 3 and Other small states in 3.
Head to head by decade
| Decade | Greenland | Other small states | Difference | Ahead |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1970s | 1.15 t CO2e/capita | 8.63 t CO2e/capita | 7.48 t CO2e/capita | Other small states |
| 1980s | 1.12 t CO2e/capita | 9.1 t CO2e/capita | 7.98 t CO2e/capita | Other small states |
| 1990s | 1.09 t CO2e/capita | 6.95 t CO2e/capita | 5.86 t CO2e/capita | Other small states |
| 2000s | 7.53 t CO2e/capita | 6.63 t CO2e/capita | 0.8966 t CO2e/capita | Greenland |
| 2010s | 10.82 t CO2e/capita | 6.54 t CO2e/capita | 4.28 t CO2e/capita | Greenland |
| 2020s | 11.19 t CO2e/capita | 5.37 t CO2e/capita | 5.82 t CO2e/capita | Greenland |
Averages of every year both report within each decade.

About this data
Total annual emissions of the six greenhouse gases (GHG) covered by the Kyoto Protocol (carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), and sulphurhexafluoride (SF6)) from the energy, industry, waste, and agriculture sectors, standardized to carbon dioxide equivalent values divided by the economy's population. This measure excludes GHG fluxes caused by Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), as these fluxes have larger uncertainties.
